Description: Special edition of Laguja Radio, my podcast(and sometimes also Internet radio broadcast) concerning the disappearing of MTV3 from Estonian cable TV and terrestrial digital TV systems... Due to licensing reasons, MTV3 will likely disappear from Estonian cable and digital terrestrial pay-tv in January 2008. What Soviet Rule failed in, the Capitalism succeeded - There appears to be a crusade against watching Finnish TV channels in Estonia. Some crusaders say that sooner or later all Finnish TV channels must be unavailable in Estonia because it gravely violates the rights of Estonian local stations(I have declared a boycott against Estonian private channels on this reason) and if Hollywood gets to know about this, Finns might face heavy fines :( (at least so are the rumors spreading around) |

StainsMovie ::: Favorites 2007-12-02 14:44:33 I have no problem with capitalism, so long as it is carefully regulated so that it does not trample over the rights of the people. Unfortunately, American presidents from Reagan onward (and that includes Clinton) have worked tirelessly to destroy protection of the public from corporate abuse. __________________________________________________
tarmotanilsoo ::: Favorites 2007-12-02 14:31:49 I am currently receiving it over terrestrial digital TV, but it is encrypted and I pay 99 kr/month to my local provider... __________________________________________________
tarmotanilsoo ::: Favorites 2007-12-02 14:27:37 I live too far inland... But I do have a set top box which supports finnish format so during tropospheric openings, I could still get a glympse of Finnish TV __________________________________________________
tarmotanilsoo ::: Favorites 2007-12-02 14:26:47 Latest news is that MTV3 didn't have a problem with us, but some very jealous satellite operators had. MTV3 had licensed cable and digi tv relay, but due to discrimination allegations from satellite tv providers, they decided to end it... Overspill reception is not affected by this decision so people in Northern Estonia will have access in the future as well... Time to start DXing again. However... Capitalism's pros outweigh the cons. __________________________________________________
StainsMovie ::: Favorites 2007-12-02 14:21:09 Also, if the digital signal can be received where you live, can you not buy a digital set-top converter? __________________________________________________
StainsMovie ::: Favorites 2007-12-02 13:45:02 So the decision is made by MTV3 not to license to Estonia? I also see that MTV3 is a private, capitalist television station. As a private corporate broadcaster, it would seem that they can make whatever decisions they wish about their product. Unfortunately, that's how capitalism works, my friend - it's not about the greater good. __________________________________________________ |
