Description: think about how much gas mileage you are getting when you are putting on your brakes, and when you are stopped at a red light |

TequilaKG ::: Favorites 2007-12-17 21:13:26 This would be more successful with a Prius or any hybrid car like it. Once you let off the gas the car is esstenial "turned off". This happens in city driving situations. The brakes are still effective during this time. __________________________________________________
memphiskyle ::: Favorites 2007-11-28 22:50:57 Man, I really wish that were possible here. It's a chore to not get rear-ended when your going the speed limit, let alone the 5-15 your talking about. Then again, some vehicles are different, it depends on gearing. With my truck, at 55, i'm in 4th gear at like 5K RPM, but at normal highway speeds of 70, i'm in 5th gear at onl 3-3.5K RPM. So it's more efficient for me to go the speed limit on high ways... __________________________________________________
safeHypermiler ::: Favorites 2007-11-28 12:36:34 There's a farm out there for folks with your preference, you may want to check it out. Be very very careful though if you go there -- one person who enjoyed horses died there from internal hemmoraging. __________________________________________________
safeHypermiler ::: Favorites 2007-11-28 12:33:32 But imagine it this way - if you do the 55 MPH and the place is not too congested, you won't get rear-ended. Also - imagine a 4 MPG increase if your SUV gets 16MPG. Thas a 25 percent increase - in otherwords, you get to fill up your tank one less time for every 5 times you used to fill it up. For me that 4 MPG saves about $60 per month. __________________________________________________
safeHypermiler ::: Favorites 2007-11-28 12:30:46 Regarding the red light -- very important what you say, but I take it one step further and it works great. By staying as many seconds behind the car in front as feasable depending on traffic (the ancy people behind get PO'd) I can coast and not have to even brake, approximately 50 or more percent of the time when the light goes to green ahead. __________________________________________________ |
